The year 2022 will go down as the year of Asake. The singer-songwriter was quite simply unstoppable. With every single he dropped, he proved time and time again why his label boss Olamide put so much faith in him.

From the Baddo-assisted song “Omo Ope” to “Joha” (the current wave maker off his debut album “Mr. Money with the Vibes”), Asake has shown the hunger of a prodigy who has been waiting for his turn for too long and is finally making up for lost time.
“Mr. Money with the Vibe” recently broken Apple Music’s record as the African album with the biggest opening day. This was officially confirmed by the streaming service in a statement saying, “Asake had a record-breaking weekend on Apple Music with the release of his debut album, ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe.’
Upon its release, the album broke the record for the biggest opening day for an African album in Apple Music history.”

Even though he only came into the foreground of the mainstream this year, Asake has been grinding from way back. He studied Theatre & Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state. Although he had been releasing music since 2018, his musical career progressed further in 2020 when he released the single “Mr. Money”.
A remix with Zlatan and Peruzzi followed. He continued to release more singles including “Medusa” and “Yan Yan” before he was signed by YBNL in February 2022.
On that date, Asake released his debut extended play Ololade, which featured Asake’s breakthrough song “Sungba”. The song was remixed a month later with a verse from Nigerian artist Burna Boy. Asake would later go on to sign a distribution deal with Empire in July 2022.

Asake released his debut studio album Mr. Money with the Vibe on September 8, 2022, seven months after the release of his debut EP. The album was supported by the hit singles, “Terminator”, “Peace Be Unto You” and the “Sungba” remix with Burna Boy.
The album received adulations from fans home and abroad. With his recent announcement that he’s going to hold a concert in Lagos this December, expect Asake to end 2022 with a bang.

There is also a collaboration with Tiwa Savage on the way (which is expected to be yet another successful collaboration after the ones with Fireboy, Burna Boy, and DJ Spinall earlier in the year).
The year of Asake may be slowly drifting to a close, but we certainly haven’t heard the last of him
